That is terrible because a new battery could be installed on an existing phone but Apple and others make it so hard and costly that many just get a new phone.

I miss the old days were I could just buy a battery and dump it in my phone. Those devices were not water tight but neither is my current smart phone. A laptop has zero excuse for not having a removable battery.
