DOE Finalizes Efficiency Standards for Water Heaters to Save Americans over $7B
- Bostonian 2y agoConsumers prefer lower electricity bills, so there must be tradeoffs to these efficiency standards that the article does not acknowledge.
- creato 2y agoThe people I would expect to complain about this are landlords that buy water heaters while their renters pay the electricity bill to run it. I lived in an old apartment once where I offered to buy a smart thermostat that would have paid for itself in less than a year. The landlord still refused. I think the mismatch in economic incentives for energy efficiency between landlords and renters is a huge problem that prevents a lot of no-brainer upgrades from being done.
- pfdietz 2y agoOne concern is the reliability of more complex water heaters. It's difficulty to tell ahead of time how long they will last.
