Logseq: A privacy-first, open-source knowledge base
- heyest 2y agoI've heard good things from folk who use logseq. Personally I use org-roam for Emacs which meats me needs and let's me stay happily stay in one application.
- mionhe 2y agoI also like Zim for this kind of thing https://zim-wiki.org https://zim-wiki.org
- user_7832 2y agoLogseq's got a lot of promise, but unfortunately the inability to sync for without a subscription (last I checked) was an issue for me. I use Things 3 & UpNote now, both are quite nice but importantly allow a one-time purchase. I still miss some Logseq features. So a question to perhaps someone who's been in a similar situation - what platform would you suggest?
- theshrike79 2y agoI used Obsidian with iCloud sync and a sync plugin for a long time. Then I wanted to support the project and subscribed to their official sync service. I still use the sync plugin, but only for write-only backups
- dvas 2y agoMight not be for everyone, but using git to index markdown notes + linking it against cloud storage like dropbox/icloud to have it available on phones/tables have served me well over the last 5 years.
- tmottabr 2y agoLogseq are just text files stored in a folder in your computer. You can use pretty much any generic file sync tool and it should work. Mobile is trickier but there are ways if you really want it.
- bovem 2y agoIf you are on iOS then you can use Working Copy [1] to sync notes through GitHub, GitLab, etc. To automate the process you can create siri shortcuts like * Obsidian is opened -> Pull the repository * Obsidian is closed -> Commit Changes -> Push to the repository [1] https://workingcopy.app/ https://workingcopy.app/
- dvas 2y agoI think the best approach to take with personal knowledge bases or any knowledge data, is to have the ability to bring your data in and out as one pleases. In my flow, I use a hybrid Zettelkasten-based approach to linking notes. vscode, zettlr, logseq, obsidian all render correctly. I am happy to see more tools which exhibit more of this "bring your own data" mantra.
- tmottabr 2y agoDo you point Logseq and Obsidian to the same vault or you keep separated vaults for each? I tried using both a few years back and found a pain to manage, ended up staying with Obsidian that was more my style. I personally prefer organizing things in folder and sub-folder structures and Logseq was not friendly to that approach at the time.
