They were and still are effectively donating capital. It take quite awhile to make a return on EV charging investment especially since EVs are relatively rare and EV charging tech is relatively new and requires a lot of maintenance to keep running (primarily consistent internet connectivity is a challenge).
Capital is expensive right now and it's almost certain that Tesla is not making a profit on EV charging, thus "donating" since a good EV charging network is necessary for EV adoption.
- peutetre 2y agoBy that logic all businesses are "making a donation". It's an absurd claim. The Cybertruck charges faster on Electrify America that it does on Tesla's own chargers: https://twitter.com/itskyleconner/status/1775014705222070331 https://twitter.com/itskyleconner/status/1775014705222070331 https://teslanorth.com/2024/04/02/tesla-cybertruck-charging-hits-330kw-at-electrify-america/ https://teslanorth.com/2024/04/02/tesla-cybertruck-charging-... So Electrify America must be "making a donation" to Tesla, right?
