Something about pricing psychology, I've noticed that a) I dislike monthly subscriptions even at lower price point like $5/month. It's always on my mind to use-it-or-cancel. And then b) I'm comfortable with a larger but one time purchase like $50 per year. I'm not telling you it makes rational sense but this is how it plays out for me.
