Are Microsoft ditching conumers PC users? I don't understand why ordinary people would pay for the new Windows. It seems short sighted to milk the users this much.

They don't know that there is anything other than "a notebook" or (a pricier item) "a macbook". Others just have to use windows because someone somewhere requires them to use some windows program (and provide instructions only how to install on windows) and it's easier to use only one system.
- devwastaken 3y agoMicrosoft OS doesn't make money on consumer users the same way Apple OS doesn't. Microsoft failed to enter the hardware space because they are over encumbered with people that want their 9:30 to 4:30 and are not too worried about "competition". Half because Microsoft can't make good predictions and half - What else are you going to run windows applications on? Remove software patents and all of this is fixed tomorrow. Create real risk, create real competition.
