- rightbyte 3y agoAre Microsoft ditching conumers PC users? I don't understand why ordinary people would pay for the new Windows. It seems short sighted to milk the users this much. "Microsoft: now more persistent than your last Tinder match" You need to know that the author is a woman for the subheading to make sense.
- yetihehe 3y ago> I don't understand why ordinary people would pay for the new Windows. Ordinary people buy PC notebook from some big chain electronics retailer. They don't know that there is anything other than "a notebook" or (a pricier item) "a macbook". Others just have to use windows because someone somewhere requires them to use some windows program (and provide instructions only how to install on windows) and it's easier to use only one system.
- devwastaken 3y agoMicrosoft OS doesn't make money on consumer users the same way Apple OS doesn't. Microsoft failed to enter the hardware space because they are over encumbered with people that want their 9:30 to 4:30 and are not too worried about "competition". Half because Microsoft can't make good predictions and half - What else are you going to run windows applications on? Remove software patents and all of this is fixed tomorrow. Create real risk, create real competition.
- bradley13 3y agoTime for another, bigger round of antitrust action against Microsoft. Forbid product tying. Forbid collecting and selling user data from an operating system. Forbid deals with computer manufacturers, where they have incentives to pre-install Windows.
- orangesite 3y agoIt's always sad to watch a wildly profitable company that thinks it's still too poor to refrain from engaging in the worst kinds of bottom-feeding behaviour. Daddy issues maybe? The true measure of success and character is not the money you're making but the actions you take to protect your reputation by passing up on opportunities to behave like a common or garden-variety street crook. Society has a long memory and the last of your filthy lucre will be long gone before anyone's gonna give you the time of day again.
- jerlam 3y agoDoes anyone know if this problem affects all Windows SKUs? Pro, Enterprise, LTSC? A second-hand computer that I got had Windows 10 Pro and the difference between it and Home was significant.
