This is the first time I've heard defending the first amendment referred to as part of "culture wars bickering."
- alephnerd 2y agoThe members of the "Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government" were the same ones who voted in favor of the "antisemitism bill". I support Israel (10/7 was horrible and I know a person who died then) and the First Amendment, but this hearing is absolutely hypocrisy. If you are a free speech absolutist, then federal anti-discrimination laws are themselves antithetical to the idea of free speech. Conversely, if you are opposed to hate speech and disinformation, then you agree that moderation is needed, which itself can be viewed as a violation of free speech as an absolutist.
