This doesn't mean it's a bad idea, but the main reason prices are currently low is because 1) there's no economic bubble going on like there was in the 1980s, and 2) zoning policy here allows new construction of housing units on a huge scale to meet market demand, unlike other countries where zoning policy makes it very difficult to build new housing.
