Take-Two Interactive Shuts Down Kerbal Space Program Studio Intercept Games
- Fire-Dragon-DoL 2y agoBecause they focused on all the wrong stuff. The designers focused on increasing realism further, instead of making a more _fun_ game. They did not look at competitors (Juno) for ideas, so they managed to fail miserably at implementing new fuel tanks, they spent an enormous amount of time and resources to implement intra-spaceship-insane-physics which sounds cool, but in the end it was the frustrating part of KSP. nobody liked when you had to add even more struts because the spaceship would crumble on itself. Interstellar travel is the big deal for me. I dreamed traveling to new planets because what I loved about KSP was building an insane flight plan to get in that crazy place, with the self-imposed requirement of: being a manned spaceship and the astronauts must all come back alive. The first time I landed on the Mun was an insane feeling. They could have recreated that by just releasing more and more planets around the sun (further and further away, with more stuff and weird features), but they did it only with the asteroid dlc, somewhat. Now where we are at? I bought this expensive game and I never played it because the physics for space planes was completely broken (they would randomly turn left for no reason). Going to far places was hard or impossible because the physics forced to a low amount of engines, while having huge flying creatures is part of the fun. Is this it? A 70 cad game that has NO CONTENT?

- lionkor 3y agoKSP 2 is the one they're (or were) very actively developing, but that has been in disarray, to say the least. They released it with basically none of the promised content, at this point, people report it feels like KSP 1 but worse, with visual mods, and KSP 1 with mods is said to be much better. In my personal experience, KSP 1 was perfectly fine and didnt need a sequel, building ontop of the existing fanbase, engine, mods and knowledge would have been smart. Porting KSP 1 to a newer unity version, the new rendering system, and really focusing in on the modding even more, providing more tools etc. would have been very smart. Now KSP 2 has been in no-mans-sky promise land forever, people are refunding iz, its generally a clusterfuck. For more info, check out the subreddit r/kerbalspaceprogram
- qsi 3y agoThis is sad, at one point I played KSP 1 a lot and I agree it didn't need much upgrading. I had been hearing about KSP 2 for a while but hadn't really followed it. I'll fire up my old copy later today in loving memory...
- me_me_me 3y agoInter-planet, the speedup physics, more complex rockets, re-entry. All of those were areas ksp2 should have improved. When pushing ksp1 limits the stability issues start to show. Also ksp1 was barely playable without mods (the last time I played it) Interstellar, long term bases for jump off, more interesting science mode. There could be a lot that they could have added to ksp2. But its yet another indie darling dying on sequel.
- appplication 3y agoThat’s a bummer. I recall back in 2013/2014 the KSP subreddit was basically the most welcoming corner of the internet. Hard to imagine it would still be that way with that much discontent between players and the studio.
