Google's Payments to Apple Reached $20B in 2022, Antitrust Court Documents Show
- threeseed 2y agoWe know Apple was/is one of Google Cloud's largest customers. So likely that the true cost to Google is significantly lower.
- xyst 2y agoso a quid pro quo, lol. we give you time on the cloud, you give us default search engine.
- bdjsiqoocwk 2y agoHow does that benefit apple tho? They don't have their own data centers?
- threeseed 2y agoNo Apple doesn't use their own data centres for iCloud, AppleTV etc. The advantage of GCP, AWS etc isn't the servers it's the global network.
- choppaface 2y agoAnd might it even end up that Apple pays? Now that Google is spending over $10B per quarter on datacenter capex, as well as trying to lock up a similar deal with Apple for Bard / Gemini, perhaps Apple ends up effectively paying Google for both GPUs and a model + API.
