6G speeds hit 100 Gbps in new test – 500 times faster than average 5G cellphones

- Finnucane 2y agoGreat, just as we're cutting back on our streaming services because they're overpriced garbage.
- SketchySeaBeast 2y agoI mean, that's cool and all, but I force my phone to 4G to because I've never once needed a 800 Mbps data connection and I get much better battery life with it off. Given how much more finicky 6G is going to be I wonder if it'd make more sense as a home internet provider.
- soylentcola 2y agoSame here. I want fast speeds at home on a wired connection. I don't need to get within spitting distance of gigabit speeds on my cell phone. Hell, a few Mpbs down is enough to stream music in the car or look something up. I would probably think differently if I was using it as a hotspot to do laptop work on the road, though.

- SketchySeaBeast 2y agoThere are times when I'm out and about I can run a speed-test and I'll get 800 Mbps on 5G. But if I didn't run the test I'd neither know nor care.
- jqpabc123 2y agoThe hype cycle seems to be the only thing in wireless that is noticeably faster in recent years. Unless you just happen to have a 5G antenna conveniently located near your bedroom window.
- PaulHoule 2y agoDriving around upstate NY visiting as many state parks as I could one summer I came to the conclusion that at least 80% of the state is a cell phone dead spot even if the population is mostly concentrated in 1% of that. If cellular communications is going to find more uses the number one thing it has to do is improve the coverage.
- SketchySeaBeast 2y agoExpanding out cellphone support for satellite communication makes me way more excited than ludicrously fast data speeds if we can only use that speed by standing outside on a particular spot in the road during a cloudless afternoon every second Tuesday.
- Havoc 2y agoTo be honest stability and penetration would be more welcome. I get stuff not loading way more than it being slow
