Why is it always the U.S.’s responsibility for this kind of stuff? I’m supportive of an independent Taiwan, but it’d be great if Europe and other parts of the world that benefit from their independence could step up and help out.

- beardyw 2y agoTo play devils advocate, does Europe really benefit from Taiwan's independence? I would say only because the US has picked this fight to protect it's own industries. Without the fight there would be little difference. To be clear I very much defend Taiwan's right to independence. My argument is with your logic.
- throwaway5959 2y agoDo you like using computers and phones? If so an independent Taiwan is aligned with your interests. Unless you’re suggesting that the US is the reason why China wants to take over Taiwan, which is a level of contorted logic to blame the US I haven’t seen yet.
- lizardking 2y agoBecause nobody else wants to foot the bill to maintain the emp—err, I mean the rules-based international order. They have social safety nets they need to pay for.
