Basically this. The electricity bill went far higher for citizens while at the same polluting more the environment with wind mills and solar panels as far as the eye can see. The impact on nature and citizens is far worse but this socialist-inclined government continues the decade-long USSR-sponsored propagand against nuclear power to handicap western nations. USSR is long gone but this propaganda is well alive, unfortunately.
Without irony, France keeps building nuclear generators close to the german borders. Guess to whom we are buying energy surplus? Yep, this is just awful and the article avoided mentioning these critical details.
- ViewTrick1002 3y ago> Without irony, France keeps building nuclear generators close to the german borders. Which one? The only one they have under construction which has gone 6x over budget and was supposed to be completed in 2012? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamanville_Nuclear_Power_Plant#Unit_3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamanville_Nuclear_Power_Plan...
- uecker 3y agoAlso not exactly close to the German border....
- nunobrito 2y agoNot my fault that your google-fu needs improvement. 14 new nuclear generators by 2050: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/feb/10/france-to-build-up-to-14-new-nuclear-reactors-by-2050-says-macron https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/feb/10/france-to-buil... Now do the homework to learn where some of these will strategically located.
- ViewTrick1002 2y agoWhere no investment decisions are taken and EDF has publicly said they can’t self finance any new construction without direct state aid. It is simply a ploy to hide military spending since the French army can’t fund the nuclear industry in their own. > "Without civil nuclear power, no military nuclear power; and without military nuclear power, no civil nuclear power," the president had said, praising a sector that employs 220,000 people in France. https://www.dw.com/en/do-frances-plans-for-small-nuclear-reactors-have-hidden-agenda/a-59585614 https://www.dw.com/en/do-frances-plans-for-small-nuclear-rea...*
- uecker 3y agoFrance does not keep build nuclear generators close to the german border. Electricity trade between France and Germany was pretty balanced in 2023. For example, Germany imported more from Denmark, which does not have nuclear plants. I do not think that there is USSR-sponsored propaganda against nuclear power in western nation. In fact, Russia earns a lot of money by exporting nuclear fuel and Rosatom is one of the few companies not embargoed.
- nunobrito 2y agoInstead of "thinking", just try learning more about history. On this case from the Cold War interests that western Europe wouldn't grow energetically independent: https://warontherocks.com/2017/09/russian-active-measures-in-germany-and-the-united-states-analog-lessons-from-the-cold-war/ https://warontherocks.com/2017/09/russian-active-measures-in... Facts are facts.
- uecker 2y agoI do not doubt that russia spreads fake news. I doubt they would do it to hurt their own business.
