Claude 3 Opus has stunned AI researchers with its intellect and 'self-awareness'
- aurareturn 2y agoTangentially, I hate their naming scheme. No one knows if "Opus" is the smartest one or Sonnet, or Haiku. Just use a conventional numbering scheme or words like "Pro, Plus, Max", etc.
- labrador 2y agoI agree. The AI community seems to have a hard time nameing things. I never liked 'GPT'. Or HuggingFace. To your point it's claer from Python 2 and Python 3 which one came later and is more advanced.
- mattnewton 2y agoHuh, it instantly clicked for me that haiku would be smaller and more constrained than a sonnet which is shorter and more constrained than an opus, but they all mean they can be as impactful as an art. I can see how those aren’t as common words though.
- aurareturn 2y agoIt didn't click for me. I haven't used those words since grade school. In addition, references will often only cite one model. For example, the title here used "Opus" which to a layman would mean absolutely nothing. If this title was "Claude 3 Pro has stunned AI researchers...", it's becomes much clearer to me. I'm sure the marketing person who presented this idea to the execs had slides showing explaining what an Opus, Sonnet, and a Haiku meant and everyone thought it was a good idea. But even if a small percentage of people don't understand the naming scheme, it has already failed.
