The thing is her definition of „understanding“ isn’t actually „understanding“ but rather surface level intuition. Personally I only accept „understanding“ once I can explain it and reuse it in a different context. But I am not self centric enough to deny that there absolutely are plenty of people who love to memorize without having an abstract understanding. And they are doing just fine.
