Legibility. Good UI. Those are what I liked about OpenRC when I ran Gentoo for a few years in the ‘00s, anyway. Only init system I’ve ever actually liked.

- klysm 3y agoWhat exactly about shell scripts do you find legible? Control flow and error handling in shell scripts is a complete disaster.
- vundercind 3y agoAs a user, I mean. It was very easy to tell what it was doing, understand why, and was pleasant to interact with the tools for managing that. I rarely write init scripts.
