Then say that to make your case. Infantilizing the argument to matrix multiplication only makes it look silly and unconstructive. Social media is a bunch of registers being added to, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have insanely impactful effects to the real world.

Once again, the article is not saying that. The article is saying that AI could (and appears to be) having a dramatic impact on society. In the past, similar dramatic changes have caused civilization altering disasters. Therefore, we cannot dismiss the possibility that AI will cause a civilization altering disaster.
