That calculation is correct. 2^12 microseconds is 4096µs, or 0.004096s, and 12288b / 3Mbps is 12288 / 3000000 is 0.004096. So yeah, just a hair over 4ms for 1536 bytes. Exceedingly slow by modern standards.
