I know HN likes to blame this on the stock market forcing short term revenues but I think it goes deeper - the good "culture" employees actively flee these environments. Boeing acquiring McDonald Douglas is a classic example of this exact scenario: "McDonald Douglas bought Boeing with Boeings money."
