I think I correctly recognize who my enemies are (OpenAI and the small set of people who think they're the only capable stewards of AI). People allying themselves with the OpenAI/AI-safety folks are allying themselves with our enemies and regardless of the merit of their arguments in some philosophical sense I will oppose everything they do
- JoshTriplett 3y ago> the small set of people who think they're the only capable stewards of AI You're mistaking one group of people for another. I'm talking about the set of people who think that nobody is a capable steward of AI, and thus that we should not develop its capabilities further until they're proven safe (and I mean "proven" very literally, not figuratively).
- snapcaster 3y agoThese people will end up helping regulatory capture regardless (since they're too big of cowards to do what would be required to actually stop AI development)
- JoshTriplett 3y agoThat's certainly a new accusation I've never heard before. Why do you assume that?
- snapcaster 3y agoWhat do you think harping about AI safety and x-risk is going to lead to? You think it will actually result in banning of frontier model training? It's going to result in "sensible regulation" being passed that means only massive corporations will control all the keys to the kingdom in AI
- JoshTriplett 3y agoThat seems like a description of what governments are currently willing to do, rather than a description of what AI alignment/safety advocates are arguing for.
