Ehm, no.
The "handcuffed EV revolution" is due to management. In the west we was the best of the world in tech, than managers drop big research labs, the end of the cold war drop much public funded research and so on, all R&D goes for quick incremental evolution instead of long-term revolutions.
Chinese still do public R&D. Oh, yes, not exactly free, but still at state level, so public, something NO DAMN PRIVATE COMPANY can do, no matter how large it is.
It took same decades to fill the gap, but in the end they have better tech here and there and they are on par or just slightly sub par than us. Of course at a very inferior prices.
The result is the "neoliberal economically driven hyper-powerful society" turn out to be a distopic failure, a reactionary society unable to evolve, being able to sustain itself only a war after another until there are some potential war pray to spoil. Unfortunately once all the world or almost all turned to the same apparently successful row we end potential pray and those who keep same "old" position might eventually prevail.
Managers should not be in chief, they must be aside entrepreneurs, generic people who know a bit of tech, a bit of economy, and have a vision. A manager should be on one side, a technician on the other side and a communicating and individually powerful level-by-level hierarchy should be under them. Toyoda model is not modern Lean, modern Lean is a revised Ford model, already defeated. Both are just model to produce things, not to create new things.
