Best decision I ever made was pulling my kids from k-8 and homeschooling them due to psychological bullying by peers.
By the time they made it into high school, they were well adjusted, studied, had great physical prowess, and somehow managed to become very popular.
I attribute this to avoiding the "socialization" aka bullying that goes on in elementary and middle school.
Subject wise my kids went faster too but that's just a consequence of the Prussian style schooling.

It seems to have taken a lot of social pressure off of them, they seem more "willing to be taught" than they ever were in public schools. My oldest is in 9th grade and she has opened up in so many positive ways. The downside is that my wife works part time from home, so our income is a little less, but we won't go back. Public schools are just too dangerous.
