I've wondered if this type of backlash will ever result in re-regulating the gambling industry. With how much money is involved, I suspect that it would be met with a lot of resistance. If you could short some of these sports betting companies (DraftKings/ MGM/ etc) at the right time with respect to theoretical regulations, I feel like you could make a nice return.
