Carbon Offsets Don't Work [video]
- bbstats 2y agoThe way to think about carbon offsets is to simplify the problem as analogous to "excess mortality" - if something doesn't actually increase excess mortality, it's not as bad as you think it is (and vice versa). The same applies to carbon offsets: if their use produced an excess (or dearth) of CO2, we would notice.
- 1oooqooq 2y agothat doesn't make sense. you keep the excess mortality and then pay a con company for mortality offsets which then gives you lower tax on your mortality bound business.
- throwaway5959 2y agoNone of this stuff is going to work. Why do you think no one is curtailing their behavior in a meaningful way? Even EVs (I drive one) are becoming a joke here in the US. Asking the most basic of sacrifices seems to be beyond the pale, so don’t be surprised when none of this works. There’s no fighting thermodynamics (or controlling the pet population).
- 1oooqooq 2y agoEV are a joke because ill informed people like you think they are the solution. if you bought an ev when you already had a car you did more damage than just correctly maintaining your car. EVs save the car in industry, not the environment. driving less and consuming less of whatever saves the environment. one private jet does more harm than all cars around vs you. but nobody will mention that.

- throwaway5959 2y agoOur previous car was totaled in an accident and it was a choice between an ICE vehicle or an EV. Chill out.
- 1oooqooq 2y agocool. but that's the most rare case for ev buyers.
