Kant’s views are a refreshing change compared to default physicalist monism of the STEM-educated but philosophically naïve crowd here (who do not even realize that their view is unfalsifiable). I would say Kantian influence on modern philosophy is strong enough that one can get away without reading him directly. Reading the original is always a good idea but in that case you would perhaps need to do some work to compensate for the differences between cultural context then and now.
