I asked my wife how she pronounces Ivan (she's from South America). It's pronounced E-van because the I is like an E in English.
According to wiki:
> Evan is a Welsh given name derived from Iefan, a Welsh form of the name John. Similar names that share this origin include Ivan, Ian, and Juan.
Juan is extremely common in South America. It's not surprising that people would choose a variant of it. For example the Spanish singer Juan goes by the stage name Ivan.
