Alt Text box can't fit one screenshot of text
Hello everyone. I’ve noticed recently that the alt text box on Twitter can’t fit even close to one phone screenshots worth of text. Mastodon has a bit more space but it is still not enough. It seems like 1000 characters is not enough. Just to accommodate current phone screenshots, one might want a 10,000 character limit. You could imagine if you post the maximum resolution possible on a service, with the smallest possible text, what the real limit would be.
I’ve made a tweet with images showing the full alt text box compared to a full screenshot here:

To see the full alt text box yourself see this tweet:

And here’s a mastodon post showing the difference there as screenshots:

- TaylorAlexander 3y agoInterestingly there is some discussion for Mastodon with people asking the limit to be smaller, which raises the question as to the purpose of alt text, and how to properly handle larger text lengths in screen reader programs. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/12268 https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/12268
