Cicadas are coming, bringing mysteries that fungus scientists hope to study
- Stratoscope 3y agoCicadas aside, it's interesting to see how an article title changes during the publication process. I submitted this with the text from the <title> tag, which seems less clickbaity than the headline on the page itself: > The cicadas are coming, and some may become ‘flying saltshakers of death’ I have to confess that I like that headline more! The saltshaker quote comes from a "cicada expert" and refers to the fungus that takes over the lower part of the cicada's abdomen and doses the little critter with amphetamine and psilocybin. As often happens, the subtitle is helpful: > This year’s double emergence will be a gold mine for scientists trying to unravel the many mysteries of periodical broods And here is a syndicated copy of the article with no paywall: https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/ar-AA1nlA7a https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/ar-AA1nlA7a
