Prevalence of PCO and PCOS in lesbian women compared with heterosexual women

- talldayo 3y agoFascinating how? Queer people (or most minorities, looking at history) are pretty well-warranted to be skeptical of non-conclusive medical studies. Studies like this are interesting, but discussion around them mostly seems to invite tinfoil-hat types and Freudian gun-jumpers. Most people click through from a vaguely-worded FOX news article and haven't distinguished between 'correlation' and 'causation' since grade school. From my perspective, the studies aren't inherently harmful but they are readily used as ammunition by sycophants desperate for a fight. I feel sad and sympathetic reading those articles, and even you know this is a topic you can't wade into without an alt account.
- sinuhe69 3y agoAccording to this study, if I’m a lesbian women, I should be more wary about PCO than a hetero woman. So the next time when I come to a APE, I should ask the ultra sound technician to be more diligent about a possible PCO. Is it not a good thing?
- joenot444 3y agoIt's fascinating that people would prefer some science (like the correlation of PCOS and same sex attraction in women) to remain uncovered. The reason for an alt account is because I figured regardless of what I said, I'd end up interacting with an ideologue who took what was a very innocent observation about a medical study and tried to make it out into another American culture war debate. Seriously, where did the FOX reference come from? Plenty of us here aren't American and find it tedious when Americans online try to pull us into their sphere of regressive politics. I think people should be happy when science is done which allows them to understand their bodies better. Preferring that the information be wiped from the internet is an immature and low trust perspective.
- talldayo 3y ago> Plenty of us here aren't American and find it tedious when Americans online try to pull us into their sphere of regressive politics. Why do you assume I'm American because I referenced FOX? They're a multinational media corporation, arguably they do more damage abroad than they do in America (looking at you, Murdoch). > Preferring that the information be wiped from the internet is an immature and low trust perspective. And yet, you persist with an alt account. Maybe you prefer keeping certain information secret more than they do. Now that's fascinating.

- nikolay 3y agoGiven PCOS is associated with hyperandrogenism [0], why do you think something will change in time? [0]: https://www.verywellhealth.com/androgens-and-pcos-excess-levels-what-it-means-4156771 https://www.verywellhealth.com/androgens-and-pcos-excess-lev...
