Having run the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler with somebody else's bib (he was a friend of a friend and out of town), and having gone to the Philadelphia Marathon in 1983 to pace a friend, perhaps I'm not the most trustworthy commentator. The use of "rabbits" in distance races used to be common, yet it seems to me that the would drop out or drop back by the halfway mark. But hey, I paid for the Philadelphia Marathon registration, and for that matter the pacing didn't work out.
