Really terrible news... So glad I got to meet him in person in Dublin in 2018 when he gave a talk at https://www.tcd.ie/biosciences/whatislife https://www.tcd.ie/biosciences/whatislife and hung out for a chat in the lobby. He had this wonderful Gandalf-worthy cane that I'm not sure how he managed to manoeuvre when boarding airplanes.
