I note that complaints about Google crawling the Internet to harvest data into a search index generally fall on deaf ears, but complaints about it harvesting that data into OneBox tend to generate buzz. This suggests the issue isn't the harvesting but how the data is transformed or resurfaced. And there's nuance as to whether training a generative pre-trained transformer should be thought of more like collecting content to reshare without permission or indexing content to build something novel.
