Was just talking to a guy who used to work in commodities at Hershey. He thinks smaller bars are on the way. Fortunately chocolate products have plenty of substitutes.
- jasonpeacock 3y ago> Fortunately chocolate products have plenty of substitutes. I don't understand - it's chocolate. That's like saying "coffee has substitutes" and yet none of them are coffee. What substitutes are you thinking of? A chocolate bar without chocolate is not a chocolate bar...
- episteme 3y agoNot without chocolate, but less. It only needs to be enough to be legally called a chocolate bar.
- francisofascii 3y agoI meant substitutes for consumers. Coffee’s substitute is tea. Chocolate can be replaced with plenty of other types of desserts. Even if you look at Hershey’s offerings, they have plenty of options with a lower content of chocolate than chocolate bars and kisses.
- jasonpeacock 3y agoI've tried _hard_ to replace coffee with tea, but it's not the same. I'd rather just not drink coffee. "You want chocolate cake? Here's an apple pie instead!" ...nope, doesn't work. > plenty of options with a lower content of chocolate than chocolate bars and kisses That means it will taste less like chocolate :( You don't tell someone who wants an apple "you can have an orange, or this applesauce that is only 10% apples" and expect them to be happy.
- c_o_n_v_e_x 3y agoWith the recent Easter holiday, I noticed that a lot of the chocolate candies were hollow chocolate shells, rather than solid chocolate that I remember as a child. I chalked it up to shrinkflation.
- rasz 3y agoIsnt Hershey a chocolate substitute?
