- Chronoyes 3y agoThis is fantastic really. I run a Windows 7 laptop as part of my setup, and there is a real dearth of resources for securing Windows 7 online in 2024. I'm shadow banned so no-one is going to read this comment.
- warpech 3y agoI could read this
- thelastparadise 3y agoI could read it too.
- Log_out_ 3y agoAll the interesting people are dead to me..
- lemme_tell_ya 3y agoWhy though? Microsoft will stop providing security updates at some point (if they've not done so already.) I could see the advantage if you had an industrial use for Win 7/8, or perhaps in an air-gapped environment and for certain software. But a privacy-enhanced Firefox seems like an odd choice in such an environment.
- ranger_danger 3y ago> Why? Retro enthusiasts.
- haunter 3y ago> SourceForge link for downloading with older browsers. Yeah took me by surprise on an older, Snow Leopard Macbook that even though Safari or an EOL Firefox can load Github the actual download links under releseas won’t show up
- csdreamer7 3y agoMy first thought was "why don't they use Linux?". But then I thought about it. A lot of older systems have lost graphics support in modern Mesa and perhaps the kernel. Intel also was very bad with graphics for a time (GMA 500). My brother in law found a working 32bit laptop in the dumpster. It was able to run Windows 10 without issues. It is slow, but it works and for the time being, gets security updates. Besides appliances (factory machines, atms) and retro enthusiasts, not sure what is keeping people on 7 and 8 besides the odd application or driver.
- Krssst 3y agoNo telemetry, no ads and for some (most?) persons better UX are an advantage but no security updates is a dealbreaker indeed.
- csdreamer7 3y agoThey added telemetry to Windows 7 and 8. Not as bad as 10, but still bad. https://betanews.com/2019/07/11/microsoft-adds-telemetry-windows-7/ https://betanews.com/2019/07/11/microsoft-adds-telemetry-win...
- serol 3y agoI started using waterfox when firefox stopped supporting windows 7.
