Torvalds intentionally complicates his use of indentation in kconfig
- cratermoon 3y agoHyrum's Law applies. With little tools like Kconfig, once they get into reasonably widespread use, implementation details get a point where people depend on them. There's not much incentive to fix the inputs because the code is lenient and finding all the "wrong" usages is hard. On the flip side, changing the parsers to be more strict gets pushback because of the potential for breakages.
- eternityforest 3y agoI wonder how much effort is collectively spent every year just on parsing these formats. We have JSON, YAML, TOML, INI, and XML, and a few random ones that look interesting, but really I think I'd be fine with just JSON and INI if I had to. I suppose back in the day stuff like that wasn't as popular though and it was either XML or custom stuff.
