I know that techbros will buy literally anything, but how many techbros can there be for this product to break even?
- fransje26 3y ago> but how many techbros can there be for this product to break even? For the moment, they are in the breaking phase.

- tetris11 3y ago"people with money who immediately buy unvetted products to appear morally/technologically superior to others?"
- infecto 3y agoWhy even care so much about how other people behave that you need to project your imagination? The Cybertruck has terrible QC, it has nothing to do with "techbros".
- tetris11 3y agoBecause I'm genuinely wondering who would buy such a product with terrible QC. I doubt its the average consumer, yet clearly there was a niche of people this was marketed at. Who is this niche, and are they such in number that they can really make this product profitable?
- afavour 3y agoIn a weird way Musk’s nutso brand means the Cybertruck market is broader than just tech bros, it now also includes right wing reactionary bros who love the word “triggered” so much they’ll spend $80k to have an excuse to ask someone about it.
- 2four2 3y ago>how many techbros can there be for this product to break even? The end of the article says there is a 5 year wait time for one, and close to 2 million on the wait list.
- afavour 3y agoThey only require a $100 deposit to get on the waitlist. Maybe I’m too much of a cynic but I’m skeptical anywhere near 2 million people would pay the full price if they were given the opportunity tomorrow.
- infecto 3y agoYou are definitely, correct. Especially given the massive shortcomings of the product. At the time of deposit, they advertised things like 500mile ranges. What has come out so far is a lackluster product.
- slac 3y agoAnd there is no refund button for the deposit. I would have pressed it long ago.
- BXlnt2EachOther 3y agoI wonder how many people reserved near the announcement; lots of time for personal and global situations to have changed in the last five years. They (Tesla) also look to have overpromised a bit. When Cybertruck was announced the base model was $39,900 and Elon suggested incentives could bring it even lower [0]. The three tiers were $40/50/70k, then it launched at $61/80/100k. To be fair, $40k in 2019 is around $48k today but that's still a 25% price increase. Also, the high-end version was initially presented as having 500 mile range and 14000lb towing capacity, but now it's 320 mile range and 11000lb capacity. - FireBeyond 3y agoLet's not forget the solar roof... And the anticlimactic tent: https://electrek.co/2024/03/08/tesla-shipping-cybertruck-tent/ https://electrek.co/2024/03/08/tesla-shipping-cybertruck-ten... - $3,000?!? With no "Tent Mode" to self-level, and no integration into the vehicle HVAC?
- micromacrofoot 3y agoelon is still popular to the extent that he could sell just about anything to a few million people, this will probably never change. Once you hit a certain level of wealth and fame it self perpetuates
