Minimalism seems like a natural reaction to things getting so cheap that you can litter your home with stuff every paycheck. On the other side, it seems like some process getting out of hand. From the initial reward of tidying and delittering, people remove too much stuff.
I moved last year and for this purpose, I created a little command line utility to track every single item. Of course I have much more. But it forced me to reconsider every item. I let go of many items and now, for example, all my tools are tracked and localized. When I need to fix something I can query to find out where they are.
The main benefit to me it that I buy and sell stuff deliberately as I have to record or delete it in the database.
- fire_lake 2y agoHow do you have the discipline to put things back where they should be?
- mo_42 2y agoIt doesn't require discipline for me. Somehow I'm orderly that I put things to their designated place.
- sergiomattei 2y agoMay we see the tool?
- mo_42 2y agoIt's already on GitHub, so why not: https://github.com/mo42/inven https://github.com/mo42/inven
- acureau 2y agoFor some people it's a more spiritual thing than a practical thing, letting go of desire for unnecessary things and attachment to the physical world.
