Colorado funeral home where 190 bodies were found charged with Covid fraud
- accrual 3y ago> An investigation by the Associated Press found that the two owners probably sent fake ashes and fabricated cremation records. They appear to have written on death certificates given to families, along with ashes, that the cremations were performed by Wilbert Funeral Services, which denies performing them for the funeral home at that time. Wouldn't it have been easier to just perform the cremations? I don't understand how keeping bodies in storage would somehow be a better option.
- BuildTheRobots 3y agoThat was my first thought, but my takeaway from reading the article is that they weren't doing cremations in-house or on site, but had to pay another company for the work. It mentions that they were slapped with a judgement for failing to pay for approximately 200 other cremations already. From an engineering "normalisation of deviance" pov, I really can't imagine how things cascade so badly you end up with 190 human bodies piled in a room.
- spacebacon 3y agoThis is a simple question to answer. Greed. The first few were probably to pay off debt. As they gradually compromised themselves more it turned into an addiction. At that point nothing else mattered to them. They bought into a lifestyle that could only be supported by more negligence.
