But offering free email addresses that are used (just by logging in once a year) is sustainable? This point doesn’t make sense to me. It could be reworded to state the real intent.
The biggest drawback of ProtonMail and similar services (such as Tuta/Tutanota) is that you can’t get your mails out and move to another service if you’re on a free plan. With Proton, if you pay, you can use the IMAP bridge application to download emails.
- inhumantsar 2y agowhat doesn't make sense? obv retiring some accounts is more sustainable than never retiring anything. they have to define inactive somehow and 1 year is as good a definition as anything.
- nkko 2y agoThe logic is flawed but the reason is reasonable.
- protonmail 2y agoNote that you can in fact export your emails even if you're on a Free plan - this is what our Export tool is for: https://proton.me/support/proton-mail-export-tool https://proton.me/support/proton-mail-export-tool.
- Tutanota 2y agoHi there, it is possible to export all emails from your Tuta account and store them locally or load them into another email client by using our export function: https://tuta.com/support/#generalMail https://tuta.com/support/#generalMail
