Oakland officials vote to rename airport despite SF threatening to sue
- paxys 3y agoWhat a mess. Why not just get rid of “Oakland” entirely and call yourself “San Francisco North” or something? I guess I shouldn’t give them ideas…
- bxparks 3y agoI think "East San Francisco" would be more accurate...
- pstrateman 3y agoThat's just straight up scamming.

- pimlottc 3y agoThis will no doubt cause confusion and shouldn't be allowed to go through. But I get where they're coming from. I'm sure there are plenty of SF visitors whose travel plans work would equally well with flying to OAK instead of SFO, but don't realize that Oakland is just across the bay from the city, or that SFO itself is a fair ways outside the the city limits and not really that much closer to downtown. Hopefully they can work together and figure out a compromise that helps travelers realize they have options without being overly confusing.
- pstrateman 3y agoIt's much easier to get to downtown from SFO than OAK. Double so if there's traffic.
- GauntletWizard 3y agoReally? I see the same 44 minute BART ride, with the same average train frequency, though admittedly it's direct from SFO vs you have to make a connection from OAK
- omoikane 3y agoPersonally I found SJC to be more convenient than both SFO or OAK. But I guess it's always limited by which flights are available at each airport.
- davidhyde 3y agoLondon Heathrow Airport, London Luton Airport, London Stansted Airport, London City Airport, London Southend Airport, London Gatwick Airport In a circle around London with distances ranging from 8 to 40 miles from the city. Doesn’t seem that confusing for travellers, just gives them more options.
- JumpCrisscross 3y agoAnd on the other end of the spectrum, none of New York's airports' names contain "New York."
- 998244353 3y agoIn London too, though, have airports like London Ashford [0] considerably further from London trying to cash in the London brand. [0]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydd_Airport https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydd_Airport
- fragmede 3y agoGive that SFO isn't in San Francisco either, I don't have a huge problem with this.
- millzlane 3y agoCan't please everyone.
- k310 3y agoWhy? Did people flying to Oakland Michigan mistakenly end up in California? If they want to attract SF visitors, how about calling it Oakland-SFBAY?
