Wacom EMR pen tech has existed since at least the early 00's, I have an old ThinkPad tablet that uses it. Sadly, Lenovo and many other manufacturers have moved away from it due to cost cutting. I much prefer it, it's also way more responsive by default than the newer active stylus tech.
