It's true. The easiest code to read is the code you wrote yourself. To read other people's code, you have to decode it. And it's very easy to write convoluted "clever" code that you yourself will not be able to read six months down the line, like what Brian Kernighan meant when he said:
"Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it."
I strongly believe it's easier to write working code than it is to untangle it later on. Writing readable code is a skill.
