I always say that come to ask if you get stuck on something for more than a half a day or so. Unfortunately most people don't even when I ask them to. I've definitely done this before, and in retrospect, having moved on to other roles, it's obvious to me now that the workplace & overall company was actually the problem. People reach out early when they're engaged and feel comfortable.
