Can someone explain why Google must have sought Chinese approval? Both companies are American, so what's the problem? Why get approval in US,Europe,China but not somewhere else?
- abraham 14y agoIt depends on the countries laws and how large a presence a company has in the country.
- vladd 14y agoIt doesn't matter what nationality the company has, but rather the laws of the countries where it operates.

If just the nationality of incorporation mattered with respect to merger law, then companies would just start devising even more complicated workarounds than are already employed for non-repatriated income.
- danmaz74 14y agoGoogle and Motorola sell in the EU, China etc. - that's why they have to comply with their laws. Just like foreign companies selling in the US ;)
