- fsckboy 3y agoand the Internet Archive just backed up an entire paywalled Wired article, though I guess it falls under Aruban history too!

- blakesterz 3y agoBarbados is working on something similar "Reclaiming Our Atlantic Destiny (ROAD) Project" ... "it includes a massive digitization project, the creation of a memorial to enslaved people by Adjaye Associates, and the planning for a new heritage district to incorporate a museum and archives, performing arts venues, and associated amenities". Not working with the Internet Archive, at least as far as I know. https://www.maxwellanderson.com/artscoping/2021/12/11/episode-86-notes-on-the-road-project-in-barbados https://www.maxwellanderson.com/artscoping/2021/12/11/episod...
- parasti 3y agoWhat an absurd headline. If the island somehow disappeared, they would soon find out that the "entire island" was not in fact backed up.
- pinko 3y agoYour observation is so obvious that it should make you wonder whether you're making an insightful and helpful criticism -- or just failing to comprehend that not all sentences are literal, and rhetorical flourishes are a thing. For god's sake, prose is not code.
- goosejuice 3y agoOr making a joke... furthering your last point.
- parasti 3y agoI'm definitely not trying to be helpful. Just openly annoyed by yet another clickbait headline in a sea of clickbait headlines that somehow survived HN scrutiny.

- tivert 3y ago> What an absurd headline. If the island somehow disappeared, they would soon find out that the "entire island" was not in fact backed up. I totally agree, it's the kind of grandiose exaggeration I've come to expect from SV culture. In reality, they scanned 40,000 documents and 60,000 images.
- WalterBright 3y agoAs our ability to store data has increased, our generation of data has vastly increased to exceeded that.
- lxgr 3y agoHopefully it was a non-destructive scan!?
