Tesla's Cybertrucks were 'rushed out,' are malfunctioning at astounding rate
- electrondood 3y agoWeak FUD article referencing a single forum post. Garbage, but not unexpected from the NY Post. I try not to click on anything with a headline that has superlative clickbait words like "astounding"
- rickdeckard 3y ago> "A separate thread featured a “WTF moment” in which the owner said his Cybertruck’s auto-pilot feature seemingly malfunctioned as another truck approached in the other lane while both were driving on a highway." Sounds like the Software had an identity crash when it saw itself. /s But seriously, with that title I was expecting a more factual summary of this "astounding rate", not a collection of random posts from some forums. But yeah, it's the NY Post...
- jimmydddd 3y agoComedian/Commentator Bill Maher has noted how even top papers like the NY Times / Washington Post will use some random Twitter post as the basis for a story. They would never consider it legit if "some guy Bob at the bar" said something, but if Bob@Twitter posts it, they feel comfortable reporting on it as "news."
- rickdeckard 3y agoThis might be true, but at least those outlets are mainly known for investigative pieces. I would be much more disappointed with them if they would post such an article only consisting of "and then user xx said yy", "forum user aa commented bb", without any deeper investigation. Maybe someone there is already working on a larger piece, it just takes more time than copy/paste from some social media posts...
- JohnBooty 3y agoThis smells like an offhand/joke comment that you're taking as fact. Can you link me to a single instance of NYT/WaPo basing a story off of unverified Twitter posts? I read a lot of news, including NYT, and I've never seen this... I've seen them referencing Twitter posts, but not basing a story solely off of them as some kind of sole source. (But of course, it's not like any individual human being could read even 1% of the NYT's total output...) Number two, it's worth noting that Maher is visibly high/intoxicated during his podcasts. Not shaming those activities but uhhhhhhh... I would not rank anybody's stoned rambling thoughts (including my own) after a joint and two martinis very highly on the credibility scale.
- giobox 3y ago> "A separate thread featured a “WTF moment” in which the owner said his Cybertruck’s auto-pilot feature seemingly malfunctioned as another truck approached in the other lane while both were driving on a highway." Autopilot isn't even enabled for cybertruck customers yet (yep, one of the flagship Tesla features, simply not there yet - not even the "basic" lane keep version that comes standard on all their other cars), so this definately seems like nonsense? Lots of threads moaning about the not-yet enabled autopilot on the owner forums, trying to guess when it will actually ship: > https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/some-reasons-auto-pilot-not-yet-operational-on-cybertruck.13428/ https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/some-reas... Reading the article, sounds like the owner tripped the AEB (Automatic Emergency Brake).
- cheviethai123 3y agoContinuing to this day, legacy news still validate Elon's criticism, ultimately leading to their own downfall.
- piva00 3y agoYou understand that legacy news are not a single cohesive block providing the same quality of journalism, and in that NY Post was never a high standard, right? It's like saying the web is a homogeneous thing where 4chan and HN belong together and HN should be judged as a cesspool because of stupid shit in 4chan.
- r0ckarong 3y agoThey should get some help from this guy who "knows more about manufacturing than any other person on the planet" ... what's his name again?
- matthewfelgate 3y agoThis article contains so little information. Was probably written by an algorithm.
- bradgranath 3y agoNope. This guy https://jalopnik.com/author/lhodge https://jalopnik.com/author/lhodge Lawrence Hodge wrote it. Hi NY Post! I'd be surprised if they have editors any more, and I doubt they have US-based staff left. Not that Tesla's nonexistent PR department would have anything to say to a reporter who did exist This is "news" now. They link tweets. Tweet links are news. In this case, this one: https://twitter.com/salsadrunkard/status/1775592500104724820 https://twitter.com/salsadrunkard/status/1775592500104724820 Except, they can't even bother to link their own tweets, and just lifted the article from Jalaponik https://jalopnik.com/tesla-cybertruck-owners-forum-is-already-full-of-tales-1851388334 https://jalopnik.com/tesla-cybertruck-owners-forum-is-alread... which does have an editor, and they did the reporting of tracking that guy down to an owners forum for the long version. https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/worst-delivery-in-my-life-truck-died-in-5-minutes.14042/ https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/worst-del... I suppose NYPost considers their asses covered, since they added "first reported on by automotive news site Jalopnik." after one of the anecdotes they lifted.
