Investors aren't robots that take everything a CEO or founder says as facts and then start cutting checks. They can choose to either invest in Elon's ventures, or not, by their own free will. The overwhelming consensus is investors have faith in Tesla and have deliberately chosen to give him money.
That's why it's called the Free Market.
If you think Volkswagen or Kia is going to deliver a better self driving technology, you can take advantage of the free market and use your knowledge to make millions. In fact it would be much more entertaining if the OP actually put some of his own cash on the line so we could watch, instead of making a glorified Tweet aggregator.
- munchler 3y agoThat’s a straw man. His detractors aren’t suggesting that investors should be prohibited from giving him money. The point is just that he is a wildly unreliable human being, even if you think he’s a good financial investment.

- Zigurd 3y agoYou vastly overestimate investors' level of critical thinking. Look at coverage of Boeing. Boeing was a shell of its former self since the 787 went tens of billions over budget and saddled Boeing with a huge pile of debt. And yet Boeing CEOs, one of them fresh from gutting the innovation environment at 3M, would blow their own horns and investors lapped it up. Sometimes it takes years or decades for the bullshit detector to be heard by most people, even most professional asset managers.
