Show HN: Add an iPod Wheel to any website with this JavaScript lib
Hey HN! I created a JS lib that mimics the nostalgic experience of scrolling through an iPod click wheel. It’s still a work in progress and not as smooth as I’d like, so I’m planning to refine it. I’d love to get your thoughts and suggestions to make it better!
- lofaszvanitt 3y agoWhat are you trying to accomplish with this? This feels terrible with a touchpad and it doesn't feel right at all. Maybe the problem is I never had an iPod.
- jeanmayer 3y agoI did this just for fun, not to be useful. Some people like old things and I'm one of them, I love the nostalgia sensation. For example, I also made https://oldestsearch.com/ https://oldestsearch.com/ which gives me the same sensation
- lofaszvanitt 3y agoFine :).
- Jaxkr 3y agoThanks for sharing. I loved playing with iPod Social which you linked. Really took me back
- jeanmayer 3y agothank you for sharing your feedback
- genier200 3y agoThanks,took me back 20 year ago.
- datascienced 3y agoNo worse than cycling the thumb in the YZ dimensions for normal smartphone scrolling!
- tlhunter 3y agoOnce I reach the bottom of the page I can keep rotating of course and the page doesn't scroll further than the bottom. But if I rotate say 100px past the bottom of the screen I need to rotate backwards 100px before the screen moves up again. Basically there's a counter somewhere that needs to freeze once I hit the bottom of the page. Mobile Firefox
- jeanmayer 3y agothanks for the feedback, I'll take a look into that.
- al_borland 3y agoVery cool. Adding the old clickwheel clicks while scrolling would be a nice touch as well.
