ReAMP, a Winamp Remake in Swift
- echelon_musk 3y agoWhy use this when you can just $ brew install audacious e.g. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32779590 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32779590
- DustinBrett 3y agoThat thing looks like it barely could even whip a llama's ass.
- dclowd9901 3y agoNostalgia. Any confirmation of whipping a llama’s ass?
- eddieroger 3y agoI downloaded and launched it, and no llama asses were whipped in the release of the latest build. Shame.
- freitzkriesler2 3y agoDamn beat me too it. Shame it doesn't whip llama ass.
- Foobar8568 3y agoAt least you can import skins and double the original size, maybe for some screens, it should be triple... Ironically enough, I installed the soft on my computer last Monday and used a Gunnm skin I used still I stopped listening music on my computer, nostalgia++

- Dalewyn 3y agoBecause that ain't Winamp. Though neither is this thing, to be fair. This thing (ReAMP) is Russian too, so no thanks given the lack of long, reputable history unlike 7-Zip or WinRAR.
- dc3k 3y agoWhy use that when you can just download re:amp?
- xenonite 3y agoI prefer IINA as a simplistic music player for macOS (https://iina.io https://iina.io). Let me recommend its "mini player" view (activated with ⌥⌘M), showing the track list and hiding the cover.
- johnisgood 3y agoOr XMMS2: https://ports.macports.org/port/xmms2/ https://ports.macports.org/port/xmms2/
- counterpartyrsk 3y agoSwamp would have been a cool name, too. Thanks for the effort, I love/miss winamp
- freitzkriesler2 3y agoBut does it still whip the llama's ass? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaF-nRS_CWM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaF-nRS_CWM
- lookitsnicholas 3y agohahah is funny seeing that posted here... Re:AMP is one of the first downloads/installations in any of my macOS environments in order to completely avoid the utilisation of Apple Music wrt playback of my local music library (my friend Luci created the icon that is currently used for the app, may be worth the time to take a look at her other work: https://twitter.com/luciascarlet/highlights https://twitter.com/luciascarlet/highlights)
- albeva 3y agoSome Russian closed-source music player... While it's a cool concept, I am far too paranoid to actually install it.

- kome 3y agomy computer is CIA :(
- xcalibre 3y agoIt really whips the llama’s ass
- rubicks 3y agoI came here for this and I will not be shamed.
- sillywalk 3y agoFor people wondering about that phrase: "The slogan was riffed off a Wesley Willis track called, unsurprisingly, Whip The Llama’s Ass. The clip became so popular that Winamp eventually adopted the Llama as its mascot, leading to the birth of Mike The Llama." https://gizmodo.com.au/2013/11/a-brief-history-of-the-winamp-llama/ https://gizmodo.com.au/2013/11/a-brief-history-of-the-winamp...
- phplovesong 3y agoClosed source software, freeware made by some russian dude. In 2024 i would really VET this before installing.
- rovr138 3y agoBecause it’s closed source or because they’re Russian? Lots of closed source Swift projects in the App Store and elsewhere.
- deleted 3y ago[deleted]
- phplovesong 3y agoBoth. Firstly im very cautious of any "single-dev" built side project, and when its closed source im even more aware of the dangers installing. And with russia in 2024 i cant trust any software produced over there. So, combine all three (close-source, single dev and russia) and you have a something really suspicious.
- _3u10 3y agoYeah single devs usually have some sort of ulterior ad driven spyware motive.
- robsh 3y agohttps://webamp.org https://webamp.org
- fsckboy 3y agothe AMP in winamp is trademarked, that's the reason why FreeAmp had to change its name, though not enough of a reason to call it Zinf https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinf#Naming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinf#Naming
- tomovo 3y agoApparently this is coming from Russia. Good luck enforcing that trademark.

- EasyMark 3y agobut this is for windows and not written in swift?
- rrr_oh_man 3y agoYeah. I was just happy to have something for macOS. Nice addition by GP, anyway :-)
- IYasha 3y agoThanks! I came to this thread for alternatives and you delivered.
- diimdeep 3y agoI must tell to every username out here who implying negative attitude only by pointing out that this is Russian made, you have been conditioned by mass media to become russophobic [1] you must understand that your attitude rooted in propaganda spread by institutions and not in objective reality. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Russian_sentiment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Russian_sentiment
- rrr_oh_man 3y agoI remember the heated discussions in the Toptal.com Slack group where some very vocal Ukrainian members were arguing for a total exclusion of all Russians from the platform, wherever they might live. Fun times.
- mxmbrb 3y agoRussia has a history of intense state surveilance und state sponsored hacking. Pair that with immense corruption and an authoritarian law system. Do I think that the USA does the same and is allready in our system? Yes, though a bit less likely and more 'with an option to'. But the big difference is, that we are formally on the same side and I do not have to fear my systems to be made into a Spam-Bot network that undermines individualism and western ideas of freedom.
- TiredOfLife 3y agoNot mass media. Things like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_states_under_Soviet_rule_(1944%E2%80%931991) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_states_under_Soviet_rul... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucha_massacre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucha_massacre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_crimes_in_the_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_crimes_in_the_Russian_inva...
- 011021 3y agowell never meant anything against russians, but it's really hard not to go russophobic here, after all the things russia has done during the last 2 years
- jbverschoor 3y agoI actually enjoy ionica player
